Vote Middie Pride
Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I have been a member of the Middletown Community for over 24 years. Several of our children have graduated from this district, with our youngest a student here. I’m someone who believes deeply in public education because I’ve lived the experience myself. I went through the school system as a non-English speaker, and I know what it feels like to sit in a classroom trying to learn while also trying to find your place. That stays with you and that has given me a clear understanding of what students need to be successful. This is where true legacies are built for people who place their hopes in an educational system meant to prepare children to reach their highest potential.  I am both a parent and an advocate who deeply understands the value and challenges of a public education and how it can transform lives.

Why are you running for the board of education?

I am running for the board because my professional and personal experiences have uniquely prepared me for this role.  I believe our schools should be places where every student is not only academically prepared, but also respected, represented, and inspired.  I have served this school district in many capacities over the years.  As a volunteer in a Kindergarten classroom, as a substitute teacher and more recently as an administrator. Through my work, I have seen both the strengths in our districts and the areas where we can do better, and this will be the focus that grounds the work I do as a board member.

If you win a seat, what is your first priority?

My first priority as a board member is to be a board member who listens, learns, and leads with students and community at the center of every decision. It is also using language that our families and community members understand.

How do you ensure that all stakeholders are heard by the board?
  • I would encourage people to come to the board meetings.
  • Be visible and accessible to the community.
  • Visit churches, mosques, work with community and civic groups in order to hear the community.
What are your goals for the board and school district moving forward?

I have spent my entire career serving students, families and educators with integrity and purpose.  As a board member my goals will be centered around equity, transparency and making sure people feel heard and represented.  I am committed to fairness, accountability and policies that reflect the voices of our community.
